Adds had a blast at the pool yesterday! Other than the fact she got to hang out with cute twin boys, she was a little dare-devil in the water. She just got in and starting walking as far as she could. Even when she lost balance and went under, she came up coughing and gasping for air, she still didn't want to be held but to get back in the water. She is going to be a tan little girl by summers end :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

In an effort to journal more, I wanted to start with our last trip to Disney. Addie is growing up way too fast and I don't want to forget the wonderful little moments we have had with her. This was the first trip she's been able to walk during. She loved it! The last time she didn't like her stroller and wanted us to hold her. This time, she didn't like the stroller and didn't like being held either. Luckily it wasn't too crowded and we could give her a little freedom every now and then.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We did Prince Charming's carousel, one of Addie's favorite type of rides. She loved holding on and sometimes getting brave and letting go for a few seconds with an added squeal!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I tried to get some shots of her in her little princess dress, I love this one. It reminds me of the line, "A dream is a wish your heart makes" as she holds her hands to her heart.</div>

Well, congratulations Addie! You have survived one year of our parenting. Our unexperienced, rocky, naive parenting. You are so lucky that you have<i> amazing</i> family and friends to help us through every question and situation that occurred!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Until you are a mom, there is NO WAY you could even imagine what it is like. What you will feel like, the decisions you'll make, your reactions to everything in this new parenting world; it's just impossible to know what it's like. I have gained SO much respect for my mom and all moms, my eyes have been totally opened and I learn something new everyday. It's not even so much learning something new, but more of seeing things from a totally different perspective.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Addie has taught me a love I could never know existed. She has taught me patience in a , "I'll be born when I want, I'll walk when I want!" sort of way. She is on her own time table. She is hilarious. The faces she makes, her sense of humor, she is just a funny funny girl. The funniest part is she knows it!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She LOVES to eat! This girl can pack it down. She knows if we are having a snack and she wants in. She usually is a momma's girl, but walk by her with ice cream, she's all yours. She HATES anything on her feet. She sleeps in star fish position. sideways. across OUR bed. She will violently kick a blanket off if she feels it on her toes. She gets so thrilled when daddy comes home from work. She rolled over at 4 months, crawled at 7/8 months, and took her first steps at 11 months. She has 6 teeth. She weighs almost 22 lbs vs her 7 lbs 14 oz weight at birth. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anytime she does something new I get a little teary, I hate to admit that because I like to pretend like I'm tough, but I am so proud of her when she learns something new. Rolling, clapping, crawling, free standing, cruising, solo steps, waving bye-bye; every event I'm a litte teary eyed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Her vocabulary includes these words (accompanied by grunts and hand gestures that are just as good as words): momma, dadda, pop-pop, baba (banana), bye bye, and hi (with southern drawl)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have got to blog more to keep a record of all these things before I forget them!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Love you so much baby girl!</div>
<br />

Things I want to remember for whenever #2 comes along or advice to first time moms:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<ol>
<li style="text-align: left;">Rest as much as possible before and after delivery</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Don't expect the baby to come on or before the "due" date</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Don't try to self induce, it'll happen when it happens...just rest!</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Keep communication up so family/visits know expectations</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Stock up on some diapers (some newborn, a couple 1's, maybe a 2 you can always exchange them if you need more of another) and a lot of wipes</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Keep receipts for anything baby related</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Don't have your last meal before going to the hospital be bagel bites and cake, even if it was your husbands birthday cake, it's just embarrassing :)</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">While at the hospital let the baby sleep in the nursery at least once so you can get a little rest</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Bring comfy clothes like sweats, nursing top, etc</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Take all hospital room items (bathroom toiletries, diapers, wipes, etc) with you, they're yours</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Order each meal you can after delivery to regain energy</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Accept help for <i>at least</i> a week (hopefully 2) after delivery</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Get baby to <i>enjoy </i>being swaddled</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Get baby to sleep in their bassinet/crib </li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Pump if/when you can so daddy can take a turn and feed baby while you sleep</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Be flexible and open (birth plan, family visits, advice, etc)</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Don't stress as much {especially about nursing}</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">It's OK to cry (scared, happy, pain, relief, hormones)</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Remember your mom and your husband are your best friends***</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Smile at your baby as much as possible :)</li>
</ol>

I can't believe how big my baby is getting! She doesn't have her 4 month appt until next week, but we believe she is about 15.5 lbs (about 2xs her birth weight!). She is so smiley and happy pretty much all the time! We just love her so much, here are things she does now a days:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;">Smiles. smiles, smiles</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Eats her hands/fingers</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Sticks her tongue out (thanks Daddy)</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Drools a ton</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Pulls her bird in her baby gym (which entertains the whole family!)</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Laughs out loud occasionally while awake</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Wears 3-6 months clothes and size 2 diapers</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Pulls out her paci and can get it back in</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Is super close to rolling over</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Likes to stand all the time</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">If she is too tired to stand, she wants you to stand while holding her</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Can make click noise with her tongue and roof of her mouth</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Jibber jabbers constantly</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Co-sleeps with Momma and Daddy</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Likes her toes painted</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Instead of crying the first phase of communicating a need is "angry talking"</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Lives up to the nickname "toots-McGee"</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Gets called: Addie, Baby, Princess, Love, Sweets, Sweetheart, Adds, Beautiful Girl</li>

While reading this book, I've taken down some notes of the things I wanted to remember and then post about for future reference. Honestly, overall the principles that she is discussing are pretty common sense and I'm not quite convinced of their "french"-ness as opposed to just good parenting. Maybe the French culture just has more self control and drive to follow through with these principles as opposed to us American moms.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sometimes the things that are common sense just get overlooked because of their obviousness. We know this from many aspects of our lives. One aspect is health, we all know we SHOULD exercise, eat right, sleep well, and we will look and feel great. Another aspect is spirituality, we all know we SHOULD pray, read our scriptures, go to church, but they are just so simple that we constantly need reminders to do so.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here are some of my notes of my reading so far so that I can remind myself and maybe it could help someone else :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Principle 1: The Pause (for parents)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started reading this when Addie was about one month old and I wish that I would have read it sooner. Everyone always tells you not to pick up your baby right when they wake up or start to fuss. Advice just seems like advice, and I always welcome it but hardly follow it. I like to just see how things play out and work in my circumstances as opposed to how someone else's circumstances turned out. Like with child birth. I didn't take any classes on how to prepare. I watched "A Baby Story" and saw how every single delivery was totally different. How can you prepare for something that you have no clue what is going to arise and how you're going to deal with it at the time? You can't. Some things are just plain unpredictable.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, when in the book she described that babies move around and make noises when they are sleeping because of their sleep cycles, it slowly started to make more sense. Baby sleep cycles are only about 2 hours, and babies have to learn to connect the previous cycle onto the next. So the little noises, faint cries, and quick movements aren't baby waking up. These actions just come from a break between cycles. (when you hear it from a biological perspective, advice makes more sense!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"The Pause" as the author calls it, is for the parents to pause before disturbing this break. The best way to learn your baby's needs are to pause and observe their behavior. Look to see if they are in a break between cycles or if they in fact are waking and need to be held or fed. Also, that if they do wake up and don't cry there's no need to pick them up immediately. It's important for them to start learning self reliance by spending time or playing by themselves. Just like adults, babies like to have alone time too.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Principle 2: Patience (for the child)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The author says that the French are all about teaching patience to their children. Well....duh. I don't think any of us out there are saying, "my child definitely does NOT need to have patience". I when I think about American vs French social culture, I can see how the French as a whole might have similar standards and expectations as to how children should behave. As opposed to American culture which is so vast, purely due to the size of our country. Not only are we huge but we have pockets and mixtures of different cultures with different social behaviors. It's the difference of a <i>mostly</i> pure cultural country (I know there are other cultures and immigrants to France as well) and the melting pot of culture that America is.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I pulled three main points of the to-do's of patience:</div>
<ul>
<li style="text-align: center;">Deny Instant Gratification</li>
<li style="text-align: center;">Explain Why They are Waiting</li>
<li style="text-align: center;">Self Distract</li>
</ul>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Denying instant gratification helps children to not only have patience but also to not have "tiny Emperor" syndrome. The other two points teach how to prevent this, she says you must explain to a child why they are waiting. This helps them to realize they are not the only person in the world that has needs such as, "I can't hold you right now I am helping your sister". It can also teach them timelines and help them gage time better such as, "I can't hold you right now because I am making dinner because I know that you're hungry. When I'm finished we can all eat." The child can then realize that he can be held when mom is done helping or cooking.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Learning to self distract seems to be a crucial ingredient in patience. It helps them become occupied and unfocused on their needs or wants. She referred to a study that I learned about in one of my child development courses in school. The study left a toddler in a room with a marshmellow. It was explained to them that they could have the marshmellow now, or wait ten minutes and then they could have two marshmellows. The results showed that that toddlers that were able to put off the instant gratification and get the second marshmellow where the ones that distracted themselves by playing with toys or singing to themselves. </div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I want to be able to remember this lesson. Maybe while I am preoccupied I can have my children coloring or doing some other singular activity.</div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Principle 3: Eating Schedule (for the family)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In reference to eating behaviors, she states these guidelines that should be observed; baby's usually eat roughly the same time everyday; they should have a few big feeds instead of a lot of small ones; and they should fit the rhythm of the family. Generally, the french adults and babies end up sharing the same eating schedule in order to comply with the rhythm of the family unit. I think that somewhere between the 3-6 month range is when they institute this schedule. Again, she suggests to distract the baby in order to gradually lengthen the time between feedings.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>French Proposed Eating Schedule</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When Baby Wakes Up</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Noon</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4pm</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
8pm</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This wraps up the first section of my notes, now maybe I'll read the other half of the book reasonably soon!</div>

Granted, if you ask Andrew, my mom, or Nicole, you'll get more details and stories because my memory of many things is very fuzzy. I'm not sure if that is due to the medication or just wanting to repress the memory of so much pain. </div><div style="text-align: center;">In any account, here we go!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7F-e5PyEEJSTJODwaf4GzcdHkpjZibBu5fhAtVX6ixbjpd7jk9uK3EvmDwuYaNsAuM1zi1lhyphenhyphen6Hjsrx2JpdDCNl4tJtnlazQtBZ_hf8djzibCtGIlWQ3L-xucb7gYjr8QsXXmPrUOvrVc/s400/Picture+2.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5730633391232345474" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 263px; height: 400px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">My due date was set for March 1, and when that date came and went I was becoming more and more anxious for Addie to arrive. I didn't know what to expect when I went into labor, I never had any Braxton Hicks contractions through out my pregnancy. So my doctor went ahead set an induction date for March 12, which seemed like a lifetime away. Of course, on Andrew's birthday (March 11) I finally started having contractions. They were 2 mins long and about 2-4 mins apart, so we called the doctor and they said to go ahead and go to the hospital. So at 7:30pm Andrew, me, and my mom grabbed my hospital bag and headed out!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5xJzsFruXgg8Pn-us8Hry8ECLCPZNgFRg5r8OaGFpThnQD-Q9bWLvEDrZ0aJ8mCbxcdUyuhiEIQvKnXnWJA7T0I0j_v5Vxxab-vfnhnV2LyVcQBW0kEIj4umm3_O51bV7F3o7WTrMiOOv/s400/Picture+3.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5730633396358683650" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 265px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Those contractions at home were nothing compared to the ones I had at the hospital. After getting registered and checked in, I still had no real progression, so they had me walk around the lobby for 2 hours to see if that helped. The contractions were getting increasingly worse and worse the more I walked, and the distance I could walk before stopping and clinging onto Andrew for comfort was getting shorter and shorter. Finally after the 2 hours they checked me again, and still....nothing. My only options were to stay the night or come back at 5:30 am for my scheduled induction. We chose to just stay the night as it was already 11 pm. They got my IV set and gave me some pain medication for my contractions. At some point, maybe around 5 am they came in and told me I was a 6! You know what that means....epidural time! I was so happy I finally had some progression and a release from the pain.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">The epidural was great, unfortunately the baby's head was pushing on one of my nerves that was making my left leg hurt horribly. There was nothing we could do for that pain since it was due to the pressure she was putting on me. All I could do was push! Around 3 pm they had me start pushing. Since I couldn't feel my contractions, I had to be told when they were starting so I knew when to push. I kept looking at my mom and saying, "tell me when I'm contracting!".</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Randomly in the middle of pushing, the nurse told me that the girl scouts wanted to come in and visit me once the baby was here. I thought I was hallucinating, but no it was true. She was the only baby girl born in the area on the centennial of the Girl Scouts, so we she was awarded a free lifetime membership. They also brought cookies for Andrew and I. :) </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQwirB2YjdRYXvaq1-IwHgTlFbKi35y_4mBL2aOQZ0-exKXo7GZx1lh-f_RCLNBPlb0UmrCGLDDyn0yHs3tZfaW-4m9uan2xbsibixBp_AadZvyAKucYPuQx1Qe_-Sq2SGVot_eLA9_kJo/s400/Picture+4.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5730633408133853282" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 315px; height: 400px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">At 3:52 pm I saw my beautiful baby girl enter the world. It was the most incredible thing to see. Andrew cut the umbilical cord, and then watch her get weighed, cleaned up, taken to the nursery, etc. I however got to sit there without seeing my baby for almost an hour while I got stitched back up since I "pushed too quickly". Hey, if your baby is 11 days past due date and her head is putting pressure on you making you want to amputate your own leg during child labor, why wouldn't I push as much as I could? It was all worth it though, every bit of pain and discomfort. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG83rmgA79BRlwyFfSIMnzHdoRiN1pVTlOB7CIHRuioUBxBtYPeV26zAVKf21QUMUi1kACq5G5KQxMHLWh3EhgEzUCuOaf4JyH4rvNpsmJ7fxcr3LoVQwyAvp0GWnexvUHv74plVwR00E7/s400/Picture+5.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5730633414424114258" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 266px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfpP7hXYSuYe1FR24xxnN-odT3OK3TMv9jCEqCmJ2FBgL03MR8fekTxKecI-tULPSYiy5kzPjnIjg1YBrH0xtlGk3rJ-_5JyHoevzBCCAXB8L7xmnNMQERoGdusa0SqyxzYTNuN-D3lbq8/s400/Picture+6.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5730633428621703746" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 270px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOu4rTt9lnVDO_0WPotRgRIPtD_uvPuEm9dGDpbQigV-jd8yQg-iF2deczwVOSDRU417_ZzdgbWUZSjRl89ZXAyc4PnEe6CfXClr8Sf-WwKUcS5fHOterAJ5CWLQDFCwPQb4ESuMmBFc8_/s400/Picture+9.png" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5730633623947651138" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 269px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;">Recovery the first week was much harder than I thought it was going to be. <br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwl8Kex03BqIHF6-zpOU_VXjkrsd0m-qvywkLqVDHFqQyHLHeHZ5Pbp-zkVnovlfXbBAbjvBGniv_5GPq3MAzh2ME8nvpQZZyCO00pBUMzw1IpUgDN4zsT3EDnweSWHBUkDGTYn7VcmTS_/s1600/bABY+hUNTLEY+AT+6+weeks.bmp" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"></a><div style="text-align: center;">I wanted to record the events that occurred when we found out that we were expecting a little one, so here it goes (it's pretty entertaining)!</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">First, I have to share a testimony of fasting. We all did a big fast when Andrew was getting ready to take his DAT test this summer. I fasted for him, of course, but also for a couple different things as well..... We had been contacting Del Sol hoping to do an internship for the next year before dental school, along with that in the back of my mind I thought/prayed, "and if you really want to, a baby wouldn't be bad either..." This is proof that God knows your thoughts!</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Within a week, Andrew did amazingly on his test, we got offered the Del Sol job, and well...you know the rest.</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">The day I took a pregnancy test went like this:</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">MaryBeth and I went to Busch Gardens in 100 degree 1000% humidity walked all over the place, rode roller coasters, ate breadsticks, had frozen lemonade. It was awesome. Somewhere randomly in the back of my mind the thought came across that I should probably go get a test to take when I get home, so I did. I got home, took the test, and I think my eyes about popped out. Am I imagining that line? I didn't even know what to say or think, I was just so excited! I sat it on the counter, and went into the bedroom to figure out what to tell Andrew. Of course, I walked out and he was standing right there. "I didn't hear you flush the toilet" he said. I said, "ya.....you should probably go in there and look at something" He did and then said, "Who did you get to pee on that?" He DID NOT even believe me for a long time. I was just laughing knowing I would get to tell this story some day. I told him to go get another test to a. prove it and b. make sure it wasn't a dud test. He brought home like 3 tests and they were all positive!</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">In his defense, after he believed me he grabbed my face and kissed me so sweetly, he was so excited!</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">We told our parents the next day, we used an idea we got from Nicole's family. She had just gotten back from a family reunion where all the grandkids wore a number on the shirt depicting the order of grandchild they were (it was like 1-99 or something! ;)) We got a little onsie and put a big #1 on it, taped the pregnancy test under it, and wrapped it up to give to her. Their reaction was awesome, they are so excited for their first grandchild!</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I don't know what makes me smile more:</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Thinking of Andrew as my baby's dad and how awesome he's going to be</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">or</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Thinking that my mom is going to be a GRANDMA</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">They are both pretty awesome thoughts!</div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Here is the difference between 7 and 12 weeks:</div><div style="text-align: center;">

Strangely enough I am ready for fall/winter. Not really, 3 feet of snow, can't drive the car, type winter. Just not super hot non-stop, but comfortable jean wearing, sipping a hot chocolate with hazelnut type of winter. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Key West is hot, humid, and crazy. You see the weirdest things....er...I mean people walking down the street. From the guy who every morning runs with not much else than a sombrero on his body to the chickens, roosters, and chicks over populating the side walks. We are definitely missing our family, and hoping to be able to come visit in a few months. We work every day that a cruise ship is in town (which is most days). Cruise people are so strange, sometimes they are so nice and are really friendly, and sometimes they are just mean! Once the Disney ship starts coming on our route, it is going to be really hard not to stow away! All the girls that we work with at Del Sol and Cariloha are really nice and we are sad that they are leaving us in a few weeks. They are all great girls and we a so bummed we couldn't work with them longer!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">The church here is small, but still strong. Last week was the first sunday in the new building and it is quite nice. We have already been asked to speak, but luckily it's not until October, so we have time to prepare. It is interesting to hear all of the ward members stories of how they have joined the church, most of them are converts which is so great.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Andrew is the best husband. Just thought I'd put that out there...</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">We are still waiting for visitors!</div><div style="text-align: center;"> </div><div> </div><a href="http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/?action=view&current=Untitled-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/Untitled-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a>aftonicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03864439835338326069noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2868267616812549314.post-72844341180547358172011-07-01T10:16:00.003-06:002011-07-01T21:53:30.615-06:00uh oh...<div>I have not blogged in forever. Flight plans, hotel confirmations, itineraries, metro routes, embassy contact info, etc. I feel very prepared! I also bought a little first aid kit (just in case!) and my friend Trevor (who has helped me immensely with planning the Italian part of the trip) let me borrow his English-Italian dictionary. I actually have something interesting to blog about, a reflection on this article:</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">http://www.salon.com/life/feature/2011/01/15/feminist_obsessed_with_mormon_blogs</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I think it's a pretty cool article, mostly positive. However, the comments on this article aren't, they kind of break my heart to read. Commentators are saying, "if their lives look to good to be true, it isn't" and "they are under so much pressure to be perfect all the time because of their church". To this I say: Happiness, it's not too good to be true. Second, I personally feel no pressure to be perfect from the church {or anyone for that matter}.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">We live in a time when a woman can be literally anything she wants to be. A career woman, a stay at home mom, or a mix of the two. For those women who are blogging about their stay at home mom lives, staying at home <i>is their job</i>. They create structured activities with their kids, have a craft here or there, and try out new recipes just as any other job has tasks that fill the day. The only difference is that being creative and playing with your kids {and being happy while doing it} is not accepted as a job, but just the opposite: <i>free time</i>. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Yes, of course we are going to blog about mostly the good things in our lives. Not as an attempt to come off as having a picture perfect family, but because these are the things we want to remember. The things we want to reflect on during the bad times as a reminder of happiness. I use my blog as a journal, like many others. I like to look back at things from the very beginning of our marriage because <i>so much</i> has already changed. We like to share things that happen with our family and friends that we don't live close to. Heck, we just like to share!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">The pressure and journey to be perfect is not something that is projected from an environment such as family or a religion, but an ever continuing pressure that is inflicted by one's self. It is human nature to constantly compare yourself to others. Am <i>I</i> pretty? Is <i>she</i> prettier than <i>me</i>? How can <i>I</i> be prettier? It's not self absorbed, it's just a natural thought and a strive to improve. {not just looks, education, skills, hobbies, etc.} This is why we get frustrated when we can't knock down 10 pins in bowling, why we haven't gotten a promotion, and our cookies come out burnt every time. WE want to be perfect, to be good at something, and to constantly improve. This is done for ourselves, for our own self-esteem in daily life. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">On a religious view of the meaning "perfect", again, there is no pressure from my religion. The Church encourages the reassurance that it is OK not to be perfect. Christ's life isn't meant to be a constant reminder of how we aren't, but as a goal. I find it comforting that there is only one perfect person in this world, and therefor no one should expect me to be perfect. Everyone else other than Christ, {yes everyone, even me and even you!} has flaws. I feel better when I say, "I know I'm doing something wrong, and I know it is wrong, and I don't want to be this way forever. I'm working on it." and my friends, family, and Church understand. Everyone has things they are trying to work on, and we can accept that. No you're not perfect, no I'm not perfect, but we are working on it.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">I know this is a jumble of thoughts and a process of me working through my emotions, but I just want you to know, I don't expect anyone to be perfect. Some people I know, do appear to be perfect. My hats are off to you guys {you know how you are!}. I am not trying to give any illusion that I am perfect or that my life is perfect. I have bad days, I have good days. But I want to always remember the good days. I want to try to improve myself. Don't you?</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><a href="http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/?action=view&current=Untitled-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/Untitled-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a>aftonicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03864439835338326069noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2868267616812549314.post-54586600749348113882011-01-07T10:44:00.003-07:002011-01-07T10:53:42.506-07:00Old Key West for the Holidays<div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#0000EE;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;">We had such a great time getting out of Utah and "relaxing"* at Disney for Christmas! It was so refreshing to be with family and having no stress. Grandma made sure that no one went hungry and made everyone's favorite foods. It was just so nice! I loved all of the Christmas decorations all over the parks and resorts. We even got a chance to go to the Orlando Temple to participate in some family work there. Such a great experience, and I was so glad to be able to go to that temple, since I had always dreamed of it! Temple + Palm Trees = Heaven. I'm going to try to start blogging more, I went through and looked at my posts from when I started my blog a few years ago and I had totally forgotten all of those little fun things! I am trying to use this as a journal now, so hopefully I can keep it up! Even if they are stupid little posts, I will appreciate them in the future!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">So, I have started trying to craft on a normal basis. This is my latest one, that my friend Heidi gave me the inspiration for! And the flower was her design! I think these will be so cute for this summer! So 200 posts, not too bad. I would count myself as a moderate blogger! I wanted to save the 200th for something awesome, and here it is: GRADUATION! I graduate officially on the 12th, walking on the 13th. I am so excited and pretty proud of myself! Now all I have to do is get a great job and I'll be all set. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">A few stats after taking 120 college credit hours:</div><div style="text-align: center;">I still don't know how to use the library</div><div style="text-align: center;">I have written at least 112 papers (what I could find in my "school" folder on my desktop)</div><div style="text-align: center;">I still look like a freshman</div><div style="text-align: center;">I only truly enjoyed about 3 of my 50 classes that I took</div><div style="text-align: center;">I refuse to pay 1.50 for a little thing of milk from the vending machine when I could get a whole gallon at walmart for less, however I will buy a candy bar for a dollar when I can get two for that at walmart</div><div style="text-align: center;">I have made at least one good friend in almost all of my classes (usually the girl that sits next to me every day)</div><div style="text-align: center;">Probably more than half of my friends on facebook are from BYU</div><div style="text-align: center;">The Alumni Assoc. are crazy! They called me TODAY (3 days before I graduate) to ask for a donation, I told them I don't have a job yet, I've been paying them for four years and I'm still paying them for my husband, and no I will not donate right now. They should wait at least 10 years after you graduate to ask for that!</div><div style="text-align: center;">If you skip class you are inevitably going to either a. run into your husband b. run into your brother or c. your mom will call you</div><div style="text-align: center;">and</div><div style="text-align: center;">....I suck at stats (this is very true!)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">So these are the true college essentials I have found to be extremely useful.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">First and foremost, a laptop. Not any laptop, a MAC. Come on, give it up MAC users! It has NEVER crashed on me and the battery is still amazing after years of continual use!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" color: rgb(102, 102, 102); white-space: pre; font-family:'Lucida Grande';font-size:10px;"><a href="http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/?action=view&current=40618_1357659992847_1571910169_30813032_3796985_n.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/40618_1357659992847_1571910169_30813032_3796985_n.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Lucida Grande', serif;font-size:85%;color:#666666;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" white-space: pre;font-size:10px;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;">Flash drive. This was a present from my uncle Brian and aunt Natalia when I was first begun my college career. I didn't know what I was going to use it for, but now I am extremely thankful for it! I don't think we've bought ink for our printer in over a year because it's cheaper and easier to put our assignments on this and print at school. THANK YOU SO MUCH!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" color: rgb(102, 102, 102); white-space: pre; font-family:'Lucida Grande';font-size:10px;"><a href="http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/?action=view&current=40811_1357658992822_1571910169_30813028_1790723_n.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/40811_1357658992822_1571910169_30813028_1790723_n.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Student ID. This is where you put $$$ to print homework, buy a snack (chocolate covered cinnamon bears...), or whatever. Now I am noticing in this picture that I have a pink computer, pink flash drive, pink purse, and a pink pen and pencil in the purse. The pencil and pen is an accident, I think just a coincidence because Andrew takes all non-pink writing utensils. This fits my computer, a book, and a notebook, cell phone, etc...pretty much all you need!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style=" color: rgb(102, 102, 102); white-space: pre; font-family:'Lucida Grande';font-size:10px;"><a href="http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/?action=view&current=39350_1357659872844_1571910169_30813031_1492011_n.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/39350_1357659872844_1571910169_30813031_1492011_n.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">And most lastly, books. School, photography, family, love, life, etc. But here are some pics I took of my latest hobby for when I have random spouts of free time. I'm trying to figure out how make make purses, aprons, and whatever else. The hardest part is cutting the fabrics, they are just so pretty I just want to frame them! (which I'm thinking about doing...) Enjoy!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; font-size: 10px; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); Well, it sure showed me. It just snowed an inch in 30 mins and it's still going! So as I sit here using the internet in the math building (our internet isn't hooked up yet in our new place), dropped off to school 2 hours early as Andrew had to be taking his DAT at 9 am in Lindon and we live too far to walk to school (seriously), I'm catching up my stalking and watching the snow fall in disbelief. Well, have a look at these blossoms anyway and send that Williamsburg weather my way!</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">ps. 2 months and 20 days until I graduate! :)</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; font-size: 10px; color: rgb(102, 102, 102); white-space: pre; "><a href="http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/?action=view&current=IMG_3917.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/IMG_3917.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Lucida Grande', serif;font-size:85%;color:#666666;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 10px; white-space: pre;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Lucida Grande', serif;font-size:85%;color:#666666;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 10px; white-space: pre;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Lucida Grande'; "><a href="http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/?action=view&current=IMG_3918h.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/IMG_3918h.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a></span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Lucida Grande', serif;font-size:85%;color:#666666;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 10px; white-space: pre;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family:'Lucida Grande', serif;font-size:85%;color:#666666;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 10px; white-space: pre;"><br /></span></span></div><a href="http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/?action=view&current=Untitled-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i669.photobucket.com/albums/vv53/aftonhuntley/Untitled-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket" /></a>aftonicolehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03864439835338326069noreply@blogger.com0
